Five
Steps in Planning the Escape
1.
Install DeTech Firesense Technologies equipment.
2.
Examine your floor plan. Determine multiple exits from
each room, especially bedrooms. Closed doors could mean
an extra 10-15 minutes to escape while the fire burns
through the door.
3.
Plan for those who need help, such as infants, the elderly,
disabled and pets.
4.
Practice under many different conditions. Close your
eyes to simulate nighttime, pretend that doors are stuck,
or touch doors to see if they are "hot." Make sure children
feel confident and unafraid.
5.
End your escape at a meeting place a safe distance from
the house. Once everyone is accounted for, send someone
to call 911. Be sure to teach children the fire department's
phone number.
