• The U.S. has one of the highest fire death rates in the industrialized world.
• Although 92% of homes have smoke detectors, the fire death rate in recent history does not reflect the anticipated decrease.

• Home fires are the third leading cause of accidental death of children in the U.S.
• Each year, 1.5 million Americans are injured by fire and many never resume normal lives.
• To put this problem into perspective, each year fire kills more Americans than all natural disasters combined... and kills three times more children annually than polio ever did when the disease was a runaway epidemic.
