STATISTICS
Sadly,
the numbers don't lie. So, if you think, "I'll never
get caught in a fire.", think again. According to the
U.S. Fire Administration and the National Fire Protection
Agency:
- Somewhere
this minute 5 American homes are on fire.
- The
average family will experience three fires per decade;
two per lifetime serious enough to report to the fire
department.
- The
homes and buildings destroyed by fire in one year,
if side-by-side, would extend from New York City to
Los Angeles.
Now,
you still may think you're protected because you have
the run-of-the-mill smoke alarms. These alarming statistics
may make you think twice about it.
- The
U.S. has one of the highest fire death rates in the
industrialized world.
- Although
92% of homes have smoke detectors, the fire death
rate in recent history does not reflect the anticipated
decrease.
